Giant Foam Hands for Mini Football Fans! Kids craft step by step. Jane Hayes Creative

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 piece of A3 coloured card
  • Stapler
  • Scissors
  • 1 sheet of coloured tissue paper
  • Paper glue, like my all time favorite Pritt Stick

HOW TO

  1. Curve the card into a cone shape, leaving a gap at the smaller end, big enough to get the stapler inside
  2. Secure the shape by stapling it in as many places as possible
  3. Using the scissors, trim the excess card at both ends and along the side to create an even cone shape
  4. Now to make a tissue paper fringe, cut a strip of tissue long enough to wrap around the large end of the cone, and about 10cm wide
  5. Fold the strip of tissue a number of times, then using the scissors cut from the open edge (not the folded edge) into the center of the paper at even intervals
  6. Apply glue around the outside of the large end of the card cone
  7. Unfold the tissue paper, and stick the uncut side the edge to the glued card, leave the fringe to hang over the edge.
  8. For a fuller look, make a second(or more) fringe and stick it on top of the previous one
  9. Now give us a big shout out from your super fun megaphone!

Let’s cheer on our favorite sports teams with this super cool foam hand DIY. Be it football, GAA or basketball that you love, you can show your support! They are so easy to make, especially with the help of my free printable, to guide you with the hand shape. A4 is a great size “giant” hand for little ones up to 5 or 6 years old, but why not go crazy and scale them up to A3 size for big kids, and adults too!

Now all you have to decide is which team you’re shouting for…..ART//CRAFT//CREATE

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Free printable hand template
  • 3 pieces of A4, thin foam sheets in your team’s colours: 2 in one colour, 1 in another  (or card will do fine too)
  • Scissors
  • Ball-point pen
  • Craft glue/ glue gun for hot glue (parent super vision needed)

HOW TO

  1. Print your free printable hand template and cut it out

  3. Place the template on a 2nd piece of foam, ‘x’ facing down, and trace around it
  4. Now cut both shapes out carefully
  5. To hide any pen marks, prepare to stick them back to back with pen-marked sides facing in, towards each other
  6. Using craft glue or a hot-glue gun, run a line of glue around the edge of one of the hands (on the pen-marked side), as close to the edge as possible. DO NOT put glue along the bottom edge where the wrist is
  7. Carefully line the two hands up and press them together until they are stuck completely
  8. Cut out extra symbols or letters from the 2nd colour foam, and stick it to the front of the hand for extra decoration
  9. Now wear your giant hand with pride, and shout for your team!!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • White scrap paper to practice
  • Yellow paper
  • Pencil
  • Paint markers, Uni-posca Paint Markers come out brilliantly even on coloured backgrounds
  • Scissors
  • Wooden kebab sticks
  • Masking tape
  • Paper glue stick, like my all time favorite Pritt Stick

HOW TO

  1. Choose your favorite Emoji and practice drawing it on scrap paper.
  2. Draw two circles on yellow paper. Cut them out using a scissors. Tip:  Achieve perfect circles by drawing around the base or top of a glass.
  3. Divide the facial features (eyes, smile, hearts, etc) of your emoji, and using a pencil draw some on one circle, and the rest on the other.Tip: Draw them as you want them to appear – for example; the left eye on the left of one circle, and the right eye on the right of the other circle. Tip: To ensure that all the features align correctly, once the first circle is done cover it with the second circle, and place them against the window. You should be able to see the features on the first and used them as a guide while drawing on the second.
  4. Now, go over the feature in marker and colour them in.
  5. Place a wooden kebab stick in the center of the back of one of the circles, point up.
  6. Stick it to the paper using masking tape. Tip: To keep the wooden stick secure place the tape along the length of the stick, and add an extra piece at the top to form a ‘T’ shape.
  7. Put paper glue on the back of the other circle, and stick it back to back with the first one, making sure that the features are aligned properly.
  8. Finally, twirl the stick by putting it between your palms and moving them back and forward, and see your Emoji appear before your eyes2016-05-29_21_45_44

Mini Pom Poms

Pom poms are a really great way to decorate any number of things. Add them to the corners of cushions, or the end of throws to “funk-up” your home decor. Or, why not use them to decorate gift-wrapped presents,  key-rings or fun crafts such as bookmarks?

Mini Pom Pom Image

These mini pom poms are especially easy to make….

WHAT YOU NEED

To make one

  • 3 meters of wool (yarn)
  • Scissors

HOW TO

  1. Cut 30 cm of wool from the 3 meter piece
  2. Place the short piece between your index finger and the middle finger and let in hang there, half to the back of your hand and half to the front
    mini-pompom-step-by-step-1
    Step 2

  3. Leaving a small gap between these fingers, start wrapping the long piece of wool around the tops of your fingers, use your thumb to hold the end of the wool secure against your index finger.
  4. Make it about 3cm wide (basically don’t wind it below your knuckles), overlapping many times, and making sure to keep the wool as straight as possible to avoid knots
  5. Now carefully pull the short piece of wool around the center area of the wrapped wool, and tie a knot

    mini-pompom-step-by-step-2
    Step 5
  6. Gently slide the wrapped wool off your fingers, keeping the short, knotted piece in place
  7.  Now that it is off your fingers, pull the knot really tight, and then make a second knot, making sure it is secure
  8. Take your scissors and carefully cut all the loops that have been formed, following the curved edge of your little ball, be careful not to cut the short piece of wool that is knotted around the middle

    mini-pompom-step-by-step-3
    Step 8
  9. Finally, fluff-up the ball, and give it a trim to make it as round a possible
  10. The tail that is hanging off can be used to attach the pom pom to your project, or if it is unnecessary, trim it so that it is the same length as the other pieces of wool

Cool Frog Game & Craft

This is one of my favorite kid’s crafts so far this year, and as for the children…they LOVED it!  Not alone is this project great fun to make, and super cute to look at, but the kids just love the fun toy they are left with. The only drawback? They’ll be so obsessed with trying to get the fly into the frog’s mouth that you won’t be able to get them to tidy up ….  Have fun!

  5. Using tape, stick the string to the inside of the toilet-roll insert, near  his “bottom”
  6. Staple the end for his bottom closed
  7. Draw, and cut out 4 legs from green card
  8. Staple or glue the legs to the frog’s body
  9. Draw a fly, & glue it to the bead
  10. Finally, using markers add some details such as eyes and spots. Remember, kids may need you to explain that his mouth is the red, inside of the toilet-roll insert, and when adding detail we are looking down on him from an elevated, or bird’s eye view
